Hello, I am Officer Joutras with the Plano Police Department. I am the School Liaison Officer for School District #88. I have been with the Plano Police Department since March of 2008. While working as the School Liaison Officer I am also the DARE Officer for Plano Schools.
The DARE program is conducted between Law Enforcement and Schools to warn students of the dangers of drugs, and also to educate the importance of making good decisions. DARE helps children consider consequences based on choices they make, and promotes the importance of having positive role models and peers.
The Plano Police Department and the community work hard to keep the DARE Program in our schools.. The Police department holds an annual raffle, which has great prizes that are donated by the local businesses. The money from our fundraisers goes toward a DARE Graduation Ceremony, amongst other prizes for the students.
As a school liaison officer, I work in all of the schools of Plano District #88. The main goal of this position is to bridge the gap between students, school officials and law enforcement.
My role as school liaison officer consists of many duties. I am able to enforce any criminal code violation that occurs on school property. As a School Liaison Officer I find it important to be available for students and parents to come talk to if they have questions or any problems that they may need help with. I feel it is important to provide myself as resource to students and school administration. As the School Liaison Officer I also attend extra curricular activities such as sporting events, prom, homecoming and graduation.
